Thermal Boundary Condition Checklist
Review prompts for thermal boundary conditions — convection, radiation, contact resistance, ambient temperature and heat flux application.
Purpose
For checking thermal boundary conditions in heat transfer analysis.
Conditions
- Is each surface assigned the correct boundary type — convection, radiation, fixed temperature, or insulated? — No surface left undefined
- Are convection coefficients from a justified source? — Not default 10 W/m²K
- Is radiation modelled with correct emissivity and view factors? — Emissivity from material data
- Is the thermal contact resistance at interfaces defined? — Not perfect contact unless justified
- Are transient ambient temperatures correct if the environment changes with time? — Not a fixed ambient
