Illustrative problem

An analysis and test provide 5% damped SRS curves at the same equipment location. Demonstrate the review process without defining pass/fail tolerances. All numerical values are illustrative and are not qualification limits.

Governing relationship

R(f)=SRS_analysis(f)/SRS_test(f)

Calculation

  1. Confirm same response definition, damping, units and axis
  2. Limit comparison to the common trusted bandwidth
  3. Plot ratio R(f) and identify frequency bands of systematic difference
  4. Check corresponding modal frequencies and interface-input correlation
  5. Investigate fixture/joint/damping causes before changing model parameters

Illustrative result

The ratio plot localises frequency bands that deserve investigation. Acceptance limits must come from the controlled programme requirement, not this example.

Engineering interpretation

The numerical result is useful only inside the assumptions stated above. For qualification work, replace the illustrative values with the controlled environment and verify the model or calculation against the applicable test/specification.

Checks

  • Units are consistent
  • The calculated quantity matches the physical requirement
  • The result changes in the expected direction when the governing input is varied
  • The example is not treated as a universal allowable
