Verification Hierarchy
- Single-element: initiation, softening, energy = G_c/l_c, damage variable
- Coupon: ultimate load, damage pattern, post-peak behaviour
- Mesh sensitivity: two mesh densities — results should be similar
- Energy: total damage energy consistent with G_c × crack area
- Failure mode: predicted mechanism matches observed mechanism
- Test hierarchy: material → coupon → element → subcomponent → component
