Buckling Analysis Review Checklist
Comprehensive review checklist for buckling analysis reports — loads, model, method, imperfections, results, margins and conclusions.
Requirements and loads
- All required load cases analysed
- Load introduction matches the physical structure
- Combined loading interactions assessed
- Load factors and safety factors applied correctly
Model
- Element types appropriate for buckling (shell for thin walls, beam for columns)
- Mesh convergence demonstrated for the critical buckling mode
- Boundary conditions match actual end restraint
- Material properties correct and at the relevant temperature
Analysis method
- Eigenvalue and/or nonlinear analysis used as appropriate
- Nonlinear analysis used for imperfection-sensitive structures
- Imperfection shape and amplitude justified
- Sensitivity study performed where required
- Material nonlinearity included if buckling stress approaches yield
Results
- Critical load factor or collapse load identified
- Mode shapes examined for physical realism
- Post-buckling behaviour assessed where relevant
- Governing failure mode and load case identified
- Results verified against hand calculations
Margins and conclusions
- Margin of safety calculated for the governing condition
- Allowable load is not an eigenvalue upper bound without justification
- Assumptions and limitations clearly stated
- Report traceable and independently reviewed
