Calculator

Enter the pressure and area to calculate the resultant force. The calculator shows the governing equation and substitution.

F = p * A

where:
  F = resultant force [N]
  p = uniform pressure [MPa or N/mm^2]
  A = surface area [mm^2]

For a circular area: A = pi * r^2
For a rectangular area: A = w * h

Assumptions

  • Uniform pressure over the entire area
  • Pressure acts normal to the surface
  • Flat surface (for curved surfaces, use projected area)
  • Rigid surface (no deformation effect on the pressure distribution)

Limitations

This calculator gives the resultant force magnitude. For curved surfaces, the resultant depends on the projected area, not the actual surface area. For non-uniform pressure, the force must be obtained by integration.
